Effective date: March 9, 2026. This policy explains how LocalLingo processes information when merchants use the app with Shopify.
1. Scope
LocalLingo is a Shopify app that helps merchants localize product content by market. In most cases, LocalLingo acts as a data processor/service provider for merchant stores. Merchants are generally the controller/business for their store data.
2. Information We Process
- Store and app-install information, including shop domain, app session records, granted scopes, and Shopify access tokens required to provide app functionality.
- Limited Shopify user/account fields included in OAuth sessions (for example, user ID, first name, last name, email, locale, and account owner/collaborator status) when provided by Shopify.
- Product and localization content that merchants choose to process (such as product title, description, SEO fields, market/language target, and localization output).
- Operational usage and billing records for LL Tokens (for example, credits/debits, usage counters, idempotency references, and timestamps).
- Technical and security logs needed to run, protect, and debug the service.
3. Customer Personal Data in Shopify Compliance Webhooks
LocalLingo receives Shopify compliance webhook events for customer data requests and redactions. LocalLingo does not persist Shopify customer personal data in its app database.
4. How We Use Information
- Provide app authentication, merchant session management, and Shopify API access.
- Generate localized product and SEO content requested by merchants.
- Meter usage and maintain LL Token balances and transaction history.
- Maintain service reliability, fraud prevention, troubleshooting, and auditability.
- Comply with legal obligations, including Shopify platform compliance requirements.
5. International Privacy Bases
For EEA/UK and similar frameworks, processing is typically based on contract performance, legitimate interests (security, reliability, abuse prevention), and legal obligations. For jurisdictions such as California, LocalLingo processes data to provide requested services and does not sell personal information in exchange for money.
6. Data Sharing and Sub-processors
Information may be processed with service providers that support app delivery, including:
- Shopify platform APIs and webhook infrastructure.
- Cloud hosting and database infrastructure.
- Large language model providers used for localization generation.
LocalLingo does not use merchant product content submitted through the app to train external foundation models.
7. International Data Transfers
Because infrastructure and providers may operate in multiple countries, data may be transferred across borders. Where required, safeguards are applied for international transfers under applicable law.
8. Data Retention
- Session and merchant records are retained while the app is active and as needed for security and audits.
- Usage and token transaction records are retained for accounting, reconciliation, and dispute handling.
- Shopify-required redaction flows are supported via compliance webhooks, including shop redaction deletion workflows for app-held records.
9. Security
LocalLingo applies technical and organizational safeguards designed to protect confidentiality and integrity, including authenticated app access, scoped API usage, and controlled server-side processing. No system is completely risk-free, and security controls are updated over time.
10. Data Subject and Consumer Rights
Depending on location, individuals may have rights to access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability, objection, and non-discrimination. Merchants using LocalLingo can use Shopify compliance mechanisms and contact channels to submit requests.
11. Children's Data
LocalLingo is designed for businesses and is not directed to children.

This policy may be updated from time to time. Updates will be posted on this page with an updated effective date.
